This is absolutely awful. Another Fire Tragedy. Please show your compassion and help!!! Your prayers.

I received this via email second and third-hand, as I'm sure many already have: Email Message - "Tragedy by fire struck again this week when Debbie and Gary King lost their home and their pets. Bobby Yunits sent me and some friends the enclosed message. In the interest of keeping our Paso Fino community informed, and giving Bobby Yunits and Carmen Micheletti an opportunity to further extend their mission of helping, I am forwarding the enclosed message to all of you. Despite the terrible losses caused by the recent fires, we can be grateful that there was no loss of human life. Yesterday Debbie and Gary King had a horrific tragedy strike them. Their home caught fire and burned to the ground. For those of you that know Debbie and Gary, you know what their animals meant to them. They lost many of their animal friends in the fire. During this economy their insurance lapsed, and we are soliciting donations of any kind for Gary and Debbie." End of Email Message

Unfortunately, some people have experienced such horrible economic downturns, that they ahve had to cut back, and anyone who's been there, knows that insurance sometimes gets dropped, because you just can't pay the premiums, whether it be health/medical insurance or house/property insurance. If you haven't been this bad off ever in your life, then I say you're one of the luckier ones to have escaped such misfortune. This is a reality for many today. I'm not sure where people have been the last couple of years, watching our economy being destroyed single-handedly among other things.

Please open up your hearts, give just a little bit OF YOURSELF, and help someone other than yourself - pay it forward PLEASE! Have you ever been helped? Has anyone ever gone out of their way for YOU!!!! No? Then you have not been so blessed yet. Many times through tragedy comes grace, enlightenment, and an opening of knowledge that the human spirt can and will endure. These things many times are more of a test for others on the outside looking in than for those on the inner edge of the tail spin.

Please contact either Bobby Yunits or Carmen Micheletti to donate whatever you can. Thank you.

PERUVIAN PASOS, PERUVIAN PASO FINOS....IN THE BEGINNING.....IN THE INTERIM AND CONTINUUM. This is my place card for them.

OR

CABALLO DE PASO PERUANO

EDIT: There's a selection for Peruvian Pasos now on http://www.pasofinodata.com, please make sure the info is accurate.

The Horse from PERU (The Pearl Islands):

This is going to be a humdinger. There were quite a few Peruvian imports and Complete Peruvian breedings in the 60's and 70's in the United States....Oy! Many of our horses we think are pure, either Colombian, Puerto Rican, or both, are not. They have a Peruvian in there. A lot of the Peruvians I have found came in grey, black and roan. Not sure on the roan and grey, as people confused the two, and still do....but the Peruvians did have the roan gene, and I think that is where the true roan gene in a few of our paso fino mixes come from. A "roaning" pattern is NOT the same thing as a roan gene. When a horse is referred to as a "roan," it should mean that the horse has the roan genetics, not a generic roaning pattern. It's difficult to decipher some of the roan peruvians because some of them also had a grey gene. Just as a side note, on the true roan genetics, the head will be dark, or should I say maintains the solid color.

Most of the early mixes were breedings of Complete Peruvian to Pure Puerto Rican, so you had "halfers."

Some of the Paso Finos imported to the U.S. in the beggining were registered with the Peruvian Association.

Some of these Pure Peruvian Pasos that have been registered with PFHA, and offspring, Pure and mixes, were imported to Europe, where they were further bred to Paso Fino lines, Colombian/Puerto Rican.

EDIT: GRAN GITANO, a Pure Peruvian, born 1970, was APFHA's 1973 Reserve Conformation Colt.

CONFEPASO - The International Paso Fino Confederation formed in 1990, to bring several countries together in competition of the Paso Fino worldwide; also refered to as "Mundial" or Confepaso Mundial. At the time of it's inception, it included the country of PERU, and as late as 1995, it still included the country of Peru. All the countries involved at it's inception were and are" Aruba, Colombia, South America, Curazao, Dominican Republic, Germany, Puerto Rico, USA, Venezuela, Peru. It is held every two years, and the host country is picked on a rotational basis.

These Pure Peruvian lines mixed in with our Paso Finos are some of the very best and oldest of the Pure Peruvian breeds that originated in that country in the 20th century and beyond, and are in the pedigrees of top-ranking Peruvian Pasos currently in show and breeding.

This painting is done by Jonelle T. McCoy of a Pure Peruvian gelding called "Toronado."
Toronado MF was born 5/8/97, in BC, Canada, but resides his 15 Hands high self in the USA now. This is his Pedigree:

CARMIN: Resorte IV X La Campanera (Companero=Son of Chucuano Viejo=Caribe who is Gaucho/La Oka).

PEDIGREE ACCORDING TO FABIO OCHOA IN ONE OF HIS BOOKS: CARMIN IS RESORTE IV X LA CAMPANERA. LA CAMPANERA IS A DAUGHTER OF CAMPANERO (MERIDA DE VALLE). CAMPANERO IS FROM A SON OF CHUCUANO VIEJO (MILO SARRIA'S OF MERIDA DE VALLE). CHUCUANO VIEJO IS A SON OF CARIBE (GAUCHO/LA OKA).

In the PFHA registry, it states that Companero is a Resorte 3 son out of Ingeniosa. Carmin's Reg. #7352. So that would change the pedigree for Companera and a whole bunch others. Companera as well as Carmin were imported to the States from Colombia. Companera's PFHA Reg. #11395, and she was a grey mare.

This affects these other horses imported here from Colombia in this direct line: Companerita J-Dos-C, Co Piloto, Companero J-Dos-C.

It's possible that the mare Compana is in the line. She was bred to Chucuano Viejo in other lines.

THE "CHUCUANO VIEJO" FABIO SPEAKS OF IS NOTED AS BEING THE ACTUAL ONE OR AUTHENTIC ONE FROM AUGUSTIN BARONA FROM TREJO PLATA IN CERRITO VALLE, WHOM FABIO CONSIDERS CARMIN TO TAKE AFTER.

This will be an ongoing, working list to pinpoint Puerto Rican paso finos that may otherwise be lost and forgotten about, in no particular order. It's really more of a personal list for myself, and I will be thinking outloud on this one; so if you see any that aren't Puros, then let me know. Also I may be posting some that I haven't figured out if they were imported or born here. I'm kind of feeling my way through, and may inadvertently post some that are questionable; but if I don't list them as a possibility, they may become lost again......to me.

The Dominican Republic is the second largest island in the West Indies. Colombus in 1492, named it "La Isla Española," "The Spanish Island." The Dominican Republic, aka Hispaniola, aka known by the Arawak Indian word "Quisqueya." The Western Third of the Island was ceded by the Spanish to the French in 1697 under the Treaty of Ryswick (War of the League of Augsburg, Spain), and they named this new colony "St. Domingue, which is present day Haiti, which is an Arawak Indian word meaning "high ground." The French imported thousands of more slaves, who after a revolt in 1803, named it Haiti. So the Eastern two-thirds of this island is the Dominican Reupblic today, and the other third to the West is Haiti. Today "Hispaniola is still used to refer to the island as a whole. By the mid 1500's, other European nationalities were moving onto Hispaniola. By this time, the Spanish, havng killed off most of the Indians, importaed thousands of African slaves. Thousands of Spanish had originally settled on Hispaniola by 1496, establishing a capital on the South Coast, naming it "La Nueva Isabela, which would later become "Santo Domingo."

This is the start of a thread on the compilation of paso finos in the Dominican Republic, whether they were transplanted there, bred there, etc., kind of a history of sorts, and a list of them, so that we can see how these horses developed by the selection and breeding choices of owners there. Many of these horses have Pure Puerto Rican lineage in the pedigrees because of importation in the earlier part of the 20th century from Puerto Rico to the Dominican Republic, specifically but not excluding, importation by General Trujillo.

This is a 17th century (1600's) map of Hispaniola, which today is the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Conquistador Hernan Cortes (Valle de Oaxaca, Marques del) - February 18, 1519, Cortes set out on an eleven-ship fleet , carrying nearly 600 hundred Spaniards, approximately 200 native Cubans, several Africans, and sixteen horses, veered out from the western-most point of Cuba, Cabo San Anton. They reached teh island of Cozumel, Mexico. The Expedition followed the Yucatan Coast into the Gulf of Mexico. There they defeated the natives (Indians) at Tabasco. By may, they reached Veracruz.

On July 16, 1519, he scuttled 10 out of the 11 ships in order to thwart the Velazquez supporters among his ranks. With the one remaining ship, he sent Aztec gold to Spain, with which he was seeking direct royal authority for his venture. August 16, 1519, he began his march into the Aztec capiatl of Tenochtitlan, now known as Mexico City. These expeditions and marches on land were done with Spanish horses. so this means that these horses were in Mexico at this time. Tenochtitlan (Mexico City) is located on an island in Lake Texcoco. On November 18, 1519, Cortes occupied the city, aided with the alliances of various Indian groups who were opposed to the famous Aztec ruler "MOCTEZUMA."

NOTE: VELAZQUEZ appinted Cortes for the expedition into Mexico to extract Mayan and Aztec gold. This gold was discovered on three previous explorations done in Mexico in 1517, and two in 1518 by different men. Velazquez was governor of Cuba after having conquered it with the assistance of Cortes (age 19). Cortes had moved from Hispania (Dominican Republic) to help Diego Velazquez in this successful conquest of Cuba. Velazquez became suspicious of Cortes' aggressive ambition and tried to remove him from his command of the exploration, but Cortes was too quick and made haste up along the coast of Cuba, piciking up Velazquez supporters along with the Cubans and horses as mentioned above.

CUBAN PASO FINOS - "Caballos de Marcha" - I've been told that the Cuban paso finos were large, well-muscled, and more ground-covering in gait, but I suspect it is the degree of collection and training, \the way they are ridden, and at what speed of gait at which they are ridden, which is true of many paso finos in general.

There are Cuban lines of Bold Star, Morning Star and others. This first photo is of La India del Paseo Fino. I believe she's all Puerto Rican except for the Cuban in her. I really like the looks of this horse.

Her pedigree is Bold Star (Sinai=Magia Blanca/La Sofia X Morning Star=Brillante/Brownie=Caramel (Candy line) X Conastita de Maya=Mayito S/R X Primera Classe.

She's inbred Mr. Puerto Rico, 3rd and 4th generation on the dam's side. Her DOB 3/17/96. You will find these same lines in many Pinto Paso Finos, and also for the color black. Photo is courtesy of Nellie McCoy.

You can list the paso finos that have made great in-roads into the breed via Venezuela. Post them here, and with fotos, por favor!

The photo is of a map of the Gulf of Venezuela and part of the land of Venezuela in the year 1552; and in it you can see the Spanish port of Maracaibo. I thought people might like to see this. I love maps as they present a pictorial accounting of place's history. The sixteenth century was the most exciting century, blossoming into the Renaissance for England and coming into the modern age not only with the dawn of the Empire of England but also the Americas. England was a late-comer to the Renaissance, as it had already hit the "Continent." England is inextricably linked to the emerging history of the Spanish-held Anericas durnig what was the "Golden Age," the Elizabethan period. The two greatest powers in the world at the time were Spain and Portugal.

Just for everyone's information, there have been a few requests for topics that were unrelated to paso finos, which I declined, and that were of a promotional nature. This is a paso fino forum, and I would like to maintain it as such. This doesn't mean that other things don't get mentioned or brought up in passing.

If you have PASO FINO HORSES FOR SALE, TO PROMOTE, WEBSITE NAMES AND/OR LINKS, ANYTHING TO PROMOTE/SELL, MARKET, INCLUDING ARTWORK, ARTWORK PROJECTS, PLEASE RESTRICT THEM TO THE "CLASSIFIEDS ONLY, OR PURCHASE ADVERTISING FOR THEM. The classifieds are free, if you don't want to purchase an ad, and it's what they are there for, not the main forums. I realize that many see forums as a vehicle to promote their wares, and that will be their main participation, which is great, but in the appropriate categories, not in the discussion areas. There's no way I can accommodate everyone's personal preferences and agendas; it is not meant to be personal in any way ever, even though some may view it as such. This forum may or may not be for everyone, no one forum ever is. I acquired it because I felt there was a need to have and continue what was originally instituted, a place to learn, discuss and share PASO FINO, not just as a marketing tool.

To reiterate, If you have PASO FINOS OR SERVICES OF ANY KIND TO PROMOTE OR TO SELL OR MARKET, PLEASE PLACE THEM IN THE APPROPRIATE "CLASSIFIEDS" OR "SERVICES" categories, of which I have added numerous ones for everyone's benefit. Please also CONFINE YOUR WEBSITE LINKS, WEBSITE NAMES TO "CLASSIFIEDS" AND "SERVICES" sections of the forum. I will continue to strive to maintain this forum's integrity, i.e., it's whole, so that it does not become fragmented. Thank you, Rawlie

Okay, I often get contacted about locating paso finos with some size to them. Some paso finos are too slight in build, some are too short, and people feel they need a taller paso fino. Actually, it doesn't follow suit that a taller paso fino can carry more weight - doesn't usually work that way. What you want to look for is the build of the horse, less refined bone, a bigger barrel, and a deeper chest, and above all, a sturdy animal.

This thread will be about our taller paso finos - and there are some. Size does NOT affect their gait, nor make them lose their gait. I know, because I have some 15 handers plus. It also doesn't mean they can't "FINO" if they are Fino Paso Finos.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about Majestuoso. What was he like and what did he produce? If anyone has pictures.... it would be great to see them. Does his bloodline cross particularly well with another? What is he known for most? Any and all info would be great.
